Perfect place to stay fifi and cliff were very welcoming and helpful on arrival. The room was amazing and comfortable, will definitely be staying here on my future visits to Devonport.
Unfortunately, our stay was not what we had hoped for.
We were catching the ferry in the morning, and although paid for bed and breakfast, did not receive breakfast.
I think it may be useful to know for those catching morning ferries that no breakfast is provided.
Even a little continental breakfast would have been really appreciated.
Having said that, the room was reasonable and the bed comfy.
No ensuite, so have to share the one bathroom with others
No fridge in room or use of one in the establishment was another letdown, a shame because the cottage looks so great online.
This is a disappointing review because it contains a number of inaccuracies which we would wish to clarify as follows:-
1. The booking for this guest did not include payment for breakfast.
2. Booking was made by the guest through the Booking.com platform which sets out clearly that breakfast is additional to the room price and that the room shares a bathroom.
3. Our website also is clear that the Oak Room shares a bathroom and that breakfast is an additional extra.
4. Our room rates are structured in this way as our guests often have an early morning departure to meet the ferry sailing schedule. That allows us to reduce the room rate by excluding the breakfast cost.
5. Price for the room also recognizes that the room comes without an ensuite.
6. Reference to the absence of a fridge in the room is noted. We are in the process of adding fridges to rooms. Presently three of our rooms do have a fridge, but unfortunately not the Oak Room as yet where Mr and Mrs Chartres stayed.
It is hoped that these comments do go some way toward clarifying the guest comments. We have endeavored to place all relevant information on the booking platform websites, on our own website and are continually reviewing it to ensure its accuracy.

Clifford (the host) was very friendly and talked to me early on the morning of departure. My only suggestion to him, was a small fridge in the room, but other than that I loved staying there. After a warm welcome by Fi and Sorcha we had a great overnight stay in the Magnolia room. Comfortable, clean and such a beautiful room. Our elderly dog Lola was well catered for and was able to sleep comfortably in our ensuite in a comfy bed provided.
Fifi& Cliff are very nice and friendly. They helped a lot when I stay in Devonport for first time. The room is tidy and elegant. Bathroom is clean and bedroom is warm. Fantastic experience staying here！I will stay here next time when I come to Devonport.

What an amazing place to rest your head. After a very long drive, we were lucky enough to find stony rise cottages. We were greeted at the door by the owner and sorcha the adorable pup! Checking was quick and easy and the owner is just beautiful. I REALLY wanted a bath, the heater was already on and the bath was just glorious! Candles and radox ready to use! Would recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing night away. Love bron and AJ x

Fi and Cliff, are to be commended for their warm hospitality and efforts, in presenting each room with an individual theme.
This lovely little gem of a bygone era, nestled amongst, more modern houses,
is a welcome relief from everyday type accommodation .
My wife and I enjoyed our brief but very pleasant stay.
Those 12 foot high ceilings with beautiful rosettes, brought a warm tear of nostalgia to my eye, as it so closely resembled my Grandfathers long gone

Perfection
Stony Rise is just wonderful – there’s no other way to put it. Comfortable beds, delightful and engaging hosts, beautiful gardens and a lovely breakfast cooked to our liking with fruit and jams grown/made onsite. 10/10 would recommend.

Highly recommended, The property is outstanding and the service we received from fifi and cliff was amazing. The home cooked breakfast was fantastic!! Just like mum would cook !! Most of the food is home grown, one must try the passionfruit and Tomato jam. The fruit served is home grown and bottled by fifi. We certainly will be returning in the near future. 5/5

Beautiful cottage and gardens

A short but very enjoyable stay
We stayed one night in the Oak Room, which was very comfortable. The bathroom facilities and lounge were well appointed.
Clifford was a wonderful host and prepared the most amazing full breakfast featuring a cornucopia of his home-grown produce. Simply delicious.

What a wonderful place to stay. Cliff and Fifi were such incredible hosts that could not do enough for us which made our stay such a memorable one. We felt very welcome and the house and our room were truly amazing and so well set up. The bedroom was spacious with a very large comfortable bed along with a tastefully designed en suite (including a heated floor). We totally recommend Stony Rise Cottages to anyone travelling to Devonport as it was one of the highlights of our trip and if every back in Tasmania we will definitely be visiting again.

Comfortable friendly stay
Stayed here for two nights for a nearby meeting, the thing I judge on are cleanliness, sleep quality (especially pillows) and breakfast. All these were great and better than most accommodation that I have stayed in. Lost 0.1 for a little traffic noise in my room, not enough to disturb sleep but noticeable. Grounds are beautiful and relaxing. Easier if you have a car but only a short taxi to town.

A delightful gem of a place
I had a wonderful stay, (all be it very short) at Stony Rise. Fantastic hosts Fi and Cliff make you feel extremely welcome – they feel more like old friends than people you have just met. The facilities are gorgeous. Clean, beautifully presented, with all needs provided for. The gardens are stunning and relaxing. The cooked breakfast was delicious and included jams and preserves from the properties own fruit trees. All in all, a delightful place to stay, that I would recommend to all. I hope I get the chance to go back and spend some more time there.

Stony Rise Cottage Bed and Breakfast has a wonderful, warm feeling, matching the welcome from the hosts who were very helpful, providing a list of places locally where I could eat. The rooms are comfortable and warm, the bathroom very well appointed and I felt very welcome in the guest lounge where I could make a drink and sit in comfort catching up on emails. This accommodation is well situated, close to town with beautiful grounds, especially in spring! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

This is a beautiful location, a stylish older style home with quality fittings and a magnificent garden to enjoy and relax in. Cliff and Fi were outstanding hosts giving us their attention and support during our stay. We had two little children with us and this was never and issue for them. In fact they welcomed us into their home and our children played with their grandchildren. We also had our own privacy and areas to relax in including a lounge and sunny balcony. The location was perfect for our connections to the Spirit of Tasmania ferry service, and to down town Devonport.

Clifford and Fi made us very welcome upon our arrival at Stony Rise. The B&B is in a great position and a short drive from the ferry terminal so is an ideal place to stay. Clifford gave us good advice on places to eat in the area especially as our stay coincided with a public holiday. There rooms were all comfortable clean and well appointed. We woukd definately recommend to fellow travellers!

The little added extras like bottled water and chocolates bedside and a very well equipped bathroom were greatly appreciated. Do yourself a favour and stay for breakfast with Clifford and Fifi, they are lovely people and their breakfast is sensational (best strawberries ever!! and Fifi’s home grown tomatoes were awesome but hard to keep on your plate, whoops, sorry about that) and great value. We had a wonderful time and only regret that we weren’t staying longer. The proximity to The Spirit of Tasmania berth is an added bonus if you are sailing the Strait by day.

Fifi and Cliff heartily welcomed our family of 5 into their home. Great set up for a couple of teenagers in one room and parents and younger child in another plus a lounge area to watch TV/DVDs or just relax. Bedrooms are very spacious and free Wi-Fi meant our kids were extremely content! Gorgeous grounds to wander throughout or take advantage of the back porch and enjoy a drink, which we did. Short drive to the city centre for dinner and a drive around the Mersey Bluff area.

We were catching the ferry in the morning, and although paid for bed and breakfast, did not receive breakfast.
I think it may be useful to know for those catching morning ferries that no breakfast is provided.
Even a little continental breakfast would have been really appreciated.
Having said that, the room was reasonable and the bed comfy.
No ensuite, so have to share the one bathroom with others
No fridge in room or use of one in the establishment was another letdown, a shame because the cottage looks so great online.

Jan, 2021This is a disappointing review because it contains a number of inaccuracies which we would wish to clarify as follows:-
1. The booking for this guest did not include payment for breakfast.
2. Booking was made by the guest through the Booking.com platform which sets out clearly that breakfast is additional to the room price and that the room shares a bathroom.
3. Our website also is clear that the Oak Room shares a bathroom and that breakfast is an additional extra.
4. Our room rates are structured in this way as our guests often have an early morning departure to meet the ferry sailing schedule. That allows us to reduce the room rate by excluding the breakfast cost.
5. Price for the room also recognizes that the room comes without an ensuite.
6. Reference to the absence of a fridge in the room is noted. We are in the process of adding fridges to rooms. Presently three of our rooms do have a fridge, but unfortunately not the Oak Room as yet where Mr and Mrs Chartres stayed.
It is hoped that these comments do go some way toward clarifying the guest comments. We have endeavored to place all relevant information on the booking platform websites, on our own website and are continually reviewing it to ensure its accuracy.

Clifford (the host) was very friendly and talked to me early on the morning of departure. My only suggestion to him, was a small fridge in the room, but other than that I loved staying there. The grounds are beautiful, a property I’d love to own/live in myself all the time. Thank you for a memorable stay.

May, 2020What an amazing place to rest your head. After a very long drive, we were lucky enough to find stony rise cottages. We were greeted at the door by the owner and sorcha the adorable pup! Checking was quick and easy and the owner is just beautiful. I REALLY wanted a bath, the heater was already on and the bath was just glorious! Candles and radox ready to use! Would recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing night away. Love bron and AJ x

All these were great and better than most accommodation that I have stayed in. Lost 0.1 for a little traffic noise in my room, not enough to disturb sleep but noticeable. Grounds are beautiful and relaxing. Easier if you have a car but only a short taxi to town.

Cliff and Fi were outstanding hosts giving us their attention and support during our stay. We had two little children with us and this was never and issue for them. In fact they welcomed us into their home and our children played with their grandchildren. We also had our own privacy and areas to relax in including a lounge and sunny balcony. The location was perfect for our connections to the Spirit of Tasmania ferry service, and to down town Devonport.

Do yourself a favour and stay for breakfast with Clifford and Fifi, they are lovely people and their breakfast is sensational (best strawberries ever!! and Fifi’s home grown tomatoes were awesome but hard to keep on your plate, whoops, sorry about that) and great value. We had a wonderful time and only regret that we weren’t staying longer. The proximity to The Spirit of Tasmania berth is an added bonus if you are sailing the Strait by day.

Great set up for a couple of teenagers in one room and parents and younger child in another plus a lounge area to watch TV/DVDs or just relax. Bedrooms are very spacious and free Wi-Fi meant our kids were extremely content! Gorgeous grounds to wander throughout or take advantage of the back porch and enjoy a drink, which we did. Short drive to the city centre for dinner and a drive around the Mersey Bluff area.

Nov, 2017We stayed at Stony Rise Cottages during October 2017. Fifi, Cliff and Sorsha were very friendly and accommodating. Great with the kids too. The rooms were clean and comfy and they put on an excellent breakfast as well. We highly recommend staying at Stony Rise Cottages.
